Gain Industry Experience
AIPN Model Contracts
AIPN's model contracts are widely accepted and used in the international energy industry. They are tools for the negotiator that serve as the starting point for negotiations and significantly decrease the time it takes to finalize a deal. AIPN model contracts assist parties to focus their efforts on key commercial and contractual terms rather than on provisions that are of a standard nature. Committees develop new models and revise older versions on an ongoing basis.
Members receive complimentary online access to all AIPN model contracts, as well as to the guidance notes, translations, and educational modules for those contracts where available. Members also enjoy the benefit of joining any of AIPN’s drafting committees.
Model Contract Drafting Committees
Participating on an AIPN model contract drafting committee is a valuable tool to gain industry experience while helping the AIPN to develop a balanced and fair model contract.
Due to differences in industry practices, standards, laws and customs, AIPN drafting committees are composed of a broad-based group of practitioners and negotiators who work together to develop a balanced and comprehensive model contract, using options and alternatives where necessary to reflect differences in international industry practice.
Committee members can participate in meetings and comment on issues relating to a particular contract as it is being developed. The collective insights of committee members and the debates that take place during committee meetings offer a significant educational opportunity for you, the negotiator.
Meetings are held in various locations to encourage broad participation. Conference calls and online resources are also used to solicit input from members who cannot attend in person. Committees are open to all AIPN members.
The AIPN Research Paper grant, established in 1996, offers an annual U.S.- $10,000 grant to selected qualified authors for preparation of practical thoroughly researched, publishable papers on industry issues of concern to AIPN members. These papers must be written on subjects of interest to AIPN members and to the international petroleum industry at large. Research papers have been written on topics such as decommissioning, maritime boundary disputes, cross-border pipelines, unitization, stabilization of investment contracts and long-term natural gas contracts. The resulting papers are made available complimentary to all AIPN members and are an important and valuable resource.
Connect with the International Energy Industry Community
Throughout the year, AIPN provides a myriad of opportunities for members to enhance their professional relationships and to keep apprised of industry activities and trends.
