About Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN)
The Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN) is a non-profit organization founded in 1981 to enhance the professionalism of cross-border energy negotiators throughout the world. AIPN is now comprised of approximately 4,500 members in more than 110 countries, representing numerous international oil and gas companies, host governments, law firms and academic institutions. Our members come from many different disciplines (commercial, technical, academic, and legal) and represent many different international and host government oil, gas and energy companies, and national and multilateral governmental authorities.
Energy negotiators throughout the world are choosing to join and actively participate in AIPN because of its emphasis on providing networking opportunities and on creating valuable educational programs and tools. For instance, members find the AIPN model agreements an excellent aide for their international oil and gas negotiations. Members can choose from a host of AIPN activities, including:
- attending its two conferences each year, featuring influential keynote speakers and panel discussions on emerging trends and critical issues impacting energy deals. Past conferences have been held in London, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, Cape Town, Washington D.C., Paris, Calgary, Houston, Buenos Aires, and Rome; attending Regional Chapter meetings held by the Latin America Chapter, the Europe/Africa/Middle East /CIS Chapter, the Australia/Asia Pacific Chapter, the Canadian Chapter or the U.S. Chapter.
- utilizing AIPN model agreements, research papers and newsletters; participating in the preparation of new model agreements, including attending the Model Contracts Workshop; attending the AIPN's premier two-week Upstream and Mid-Stream international energy negotiations, law and contracts course held in Houston each September; assisting students to develop their careers in international oil and gas negotiations; utilizing the job and resume bank to find exceptional international negotiators or explore career alternatives; and networking in person or on this website with other AIPN members to develop new business opportunities and gain insight from their similar experiences. In sum, the AIPN aims to help the international energy negotiator be better prepared to meet today's competitive global energy market.
Despite continuing cost cutting in the energy sector, AIPN receives exceptional financial support from the numerous energy companies who make up our Sustaining Sponsors. As a result, AIPN dues and event fees are set at low levels in order to encourage widespread member involvement.
To carry out AIPN's many and far-reaching offerings, we rely on committed volunteers, including a Board of Directors. Members of the AIPN Board are committed to participate actively in AIPN business and activities during their terms of office. The Board is elected annually, with the aim of it being representative of our global membership. AIPN's staff, based in Houston, are also available to coordinate activities and provide administrative support.
Membership in the association is available to professional negotiators regularly and primarily engaged in cross-border energy negotiations and also to those professionals who directly support this type of work. This includes (but is not limited to) engineers, attorneys, geologists, geophysicists, and accountants. Student memberships are also available. We invite you to join us.
